Beef Tips In Gravy

I have to be honest, on a cold Canadian winter day there is nothing more comforting than beef tips in gravy.  It's so yummy and it warms your bones!  I have played with ingredients in this for a long time and I finally have a perfect ingredient list!  Hubby absolutely loves this. 

For all you Canadians...I know this is not something we see here!!  Trust me on have to make it.  It will become a family favorite!  


> 2 lbs stewing beef cut into 1 - 2 inch pieces

> 1 med onion diced

> 1 package brown gravy mix

> 1/4 cup soy sauce

> 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce

> 2 cups water

> 3 tbsp olive oil

> 2 tsp minced garlic

> 1 tsp salt

> 1 tsp pepper

> 1 cup water (for gravy mix)

> 1/4 cup red wine


Preheat oven to 250F

Heat oil in cast iron dutch oven.

Sear beef in small batches to ensure even cooking then remove to a plate.

Saute onions and garlic about 3 - 5 mins.

Add beef back to pot and add 2 cups of water, soy sauce, worcestershire, red wine & salt and pepper.

Stir well and bring to a rolling boil.

Put on lid and place in oven.  Bake for 2 - 3 hours until beef is fall apart tender.

Mix gravy pack with 1 cup of water in small bowl 

Put back on stove top over med heat and add gravy/water mix

Bring to boil stirring constantly until sauce thickens

Serve over mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles and enjoy!!
